About Antonia Howard

Journalist. Storyteller. Creative.

I am a multimedia journalist and creative storyteller with over a decade of experience shaping conversations that matter in Sierra Leone and beyond. My work spans news reporting, documentaries and cultural programming, all rooted in a passion for authentic storytelling that uplifts African narratives.

I began my career at Africa Young Voices (AYV) in Sierra Leone, where I rose to become Director of News & Current Affairs, leading newsroom operations and mentoring young journalists. Over the years, I’ve reported for both local and international outlets, including the BBC, covering politics, culture, and social change. In 2022, I became the first Sierra Leonean shortlisted for the prestigious BBC Komla Dumor Award.

Beyond journalism, I am deeply connected to the arts and creativity remains central to my work. Through everything I do, I aim to leverage the power of storytelling and media to inspire meaningful change. Whether crafting compelling narratives or reflecting on global and national issues, I am dedicated to fostering dialogue, amplifying diverse voices, and contributing to the creation of a more equitable and inclusive society.

What I Do Now

Today, I wear multiple hats, all united by storytelling and impact:

Strategic Communications Consultant: supporting national and regional initiatives to craft campaigns, shape narratives, and use media as a tool for influence and social transformation.

Co-founder of Black Lion Productions: a creative agency producing documentaries, advocacy campaigns, and branded media that spark dialogue and drive change.

Host of Honestly Speaking: a podcast exploring social, cultural and professional dynamics in Sierra Leone through unfiltered conversations that challenge norms and inspire accountability.

Why I Do It

I believe stories are more than information. They are a bridge between people, cultures, and ideas. Whether through journalism, music, or , my mission is to tell stories that matter: stories that preserve memory, spark reflection and accountability, and inspire meaningful change.
